Music room, play room, safe room, family room, bathroom, laundry room, and storage room are all of the spaces we created out of this complete basement remodel in the DeWitt area. Starting from concrete walls, we framed in all of the spaces and started from there. The stairway features an open rail with wrought iron spindles and built-in under the stairway storage. The play room features a tray ceiling that allowed us to box around any beams or duct work but keep the ceiling height. The chalkboard painted walls were a great use of wall space in a room for children. The posts were custom-wrapped in wood to give the space a more finished feeling. Under the stairs we built-in shelves to utilize the space that is often lost, one shelf even features hinges to be able to still utilize the space behind that. The storage room has built in shelving of various heights and depths, with an island covered in a laminate countertop. The full bathroom we added to the home has built-in linen shelves and a Marbelite vanity top. The homeowner preferred that we did not share pictures of the music room or the safe room.

  • Master Bathroom Remodel

Ideally, when we think of remodeling a room in our home we all want the end product to be the room of our dreams. Realistically, the room is many degrees better than before, but there are still things we wish we could do. This bathroom remodel was the exception for this couple. When Mr. and Mrs. decided to remodel their master bathroom they did not want to stop at anything. The decision to use a vinyl wainscoting and trim as opposed to a standard wood wainscoting is one that we have been encouraging more of our customers to make. This large master bathroom in DeWitt also features a large whirlpool style chromatherapy bathtub. The backlit mirror is a good way to add lighting around a mirror without having to give up wall space for lights; which allowed the homeowners to add additional shelves to each side of the mirror. The large custom shower features frameless glass walls and door, a rain disc shower head, and is covered from floor to ceiling in tile. The large mirrors on the walls around the tub make the room feel even larger, and give an unusable space purpose. This bathroom remodel was a complete overhaul.

  • Small Bathroom Remodel

In updating bathrooms, often the biggest obstacle is the size of the room. There is often times little you can do with fixture placement, and if you try to do multiple colors the space can become busy. This bathroom remodel in DeWitt is a perfect example of keeping it simple, yet being dramatic. The dark gray 2×2 mosaic tile stripe and floor are a great contrast to the off-white wall and tile color.  Using a frame-less glass partition wall for the shower as opposed to a shower curtain or bulky metal frame door, allows for the shower to be part of the room making the bathroom feel larger.  The glass shelf above the toilet is a great way to break up a wall without intruding in to the openness of the room.

Many homeowners face the challenge of how to update a small bathroom because there are large fixtures that can only be laid out in so many ways.  This couple decided to leave the layout alone, and simply update the colors in the room.  The new tan and brown tile tub/shower surround, made up of porcelain and glass tile, offer a nice contrast to the white fixtures.  The green wall paint did a great job at brightening up the space.  Using a pedestal sink instead of a vanity is a great choice for someone looking to make a small bathroom feel larger.

  • Sloped Ceiling Bathroom

So many homes have a second story with a sloped ceiling that they would like to have a full bathroom in but just do not know how to go about doing it.  This bathroom is a great example of how to use the shape of the room to your advantage.  This bathroom needed a facelift and needed help using the space wisely.  Our designer came up with a few tricks that would make the ceiling height feel as though it was not an obstacle.  With placing the vanity mirror right at the height where the started to slant the room suddenly feels normal height and hides the slope.  Adding a second, taller, dry vanity gave this family added storage space and used up empty space.  The shower was re-faced with a unique ceramic tile layout that distracts you from the fact that the ceiling slopes.  Adding a new tub and toilet added to the update, as well as the tiled floor. The unique full glass door with a tree design allowed light to flow between the rooms adding to the openness of the room.

  • Corian Bathrooms

The main bathroom features a Corian tub surround with built-in shelves.  The vanities are an oak finish to flow with the kitchen.  The second bath has a complete Corian shower with built-in shelves and a backsplash around the entire room.  Both bathrooms feature Corian custom-built sinks to match the showers. The faucets in both bathrooms were a must for this mother/daughter team as they went on a design marathon doing their kitchen, two bathrooms, and the floors all one after another. When finishing a basement it is generally a good idea to add a bathroom, even if it is just a half bathroom.  Adding a bathroom increases a home’s worth and it is what many potential homeowner’s look for when buying a home.  With having to add all new plumbing and fixtures for a bathroom, the price of adding a bathroom can rapidly increase a contract amount.  This family was looking to create a place where their children and family could spend time together having fun.  We framed in the exterior walls, and also created a new full bathroom.  This basement area can now double as a place for guest to stay with their own bathroom to use.

This newly combined family was looking to make a house big enough for all of them.  With five kids, three of which are teens, they wanted to create an area for them that they could get away to.  Finishing the basement allowed them to add three bedrooms, a full bathroom, a kitchenette, and a living room area away from the main part of the house.  The double bowl vanity features a Solid Surface top with a large mirror big enough for everyone to use.  The ceramic floor in the bathroom is picked up again the small kitchenette area where they decided to go with a High-Definition laminate top.  The carpeting starts at the top of the stairs and flows through all three bedrooms as well as the large living room area.  With eight feet high ceilings and full size windows this new space doesn’t even feel like a basement!

  • Two-Story Addition

At times the only way to go is up; this family had a smaller lot that they wanted a lot of house built on. This 29×25 two-story addition with a full basement added almost 1,500 additional square feet, not including the 725 square feet of unfinished basement, to the rear of this home. Adding a master suite, family room, and office was the priority of this Okemos family. We began with a poured-wall foundation and did everything from framing to the final paint. Along with new electrical and plumbing in the addition, the house also required a new HVAC system to work with the added square footage, and a new hot water heater to handle the soaker tub we installed in the new master suite. All rooms but the bathroom feature an engineered wood floor that we extended into the existing dining room. All of the doors were custom-stained to match the existing stained wood doors. Painted wood T-111 was installed on the exterior of the addition to match the existing siding as well as matching wood trim. The entire home and garage were re-roofed and two new decks were constructed. The master bathroom was a treat for our crew. With an intricate tile design and a large bathroom filled with it, they thought they would never see the end. With dark cabinets and a light colored Corian vanity top, this bathroom has a rich look to it. Due to battles with the Township, battles with weather, and homeowner delays, this project took approximately four months to complete.

  • Simple White Bath

Posted March 20, 2011 By in Bath With | No Comments Simple White Bath

Updating a bathroom doesn’t require a lot of money or an elaborate design; some times the simplest design can be the most rewarding. This bathroom features a new tile, new bathtub/shower combo, a new toilet, new pedestal sink, new window with privacy glass, and a new medicine cabinet. The white with blue accent tiles was a great selection for this small space; it keeps it simple yet gives the room enough of a pop. The window in the shower lights the room up to make it feel larger. The built-in ledge on the window wall gives the shower a great shelf that doesn’t protrude into the shower area.
