Northern Home Improvement partnered with Ingham County LandBank this winter/spring to completely gut and remodel two homes located in Lansing. These homes are part of the Neighborhood Stabilization program. These homes are completely remodeled, brought up to code, and made energy efficient then sold to qualifying families. Many of the newly remodeled homes you see in the city of Lansing currently are part of this program.

This particular home we took the house down to bare studs and re-built it from there. Everything you see, vinyl siding, asphalt shingles, bathroom remodel, kitchen remodel, tile and wood flooring, vinyl windows, entry doors, etc are all new. The finished attic bedroom consists of sloped ceilings and dormers to add light into the room. With built-in shelving and a closet this attic remodel took a usually forgotten space and turned it into a large bedroom.

  • Open Kitchen

This kitchen took a dramatic change.  We began the renovation with opening the back wall to the new seasonal room.  By removing the solid door and window and installing a new bi-parting patio door with grids, it allows the light to flow from outside right into the kitchen.  The next major change was the flooring; we removed the old linoleum flooring and installed a beautiful hardwood floor.  The new wood cabinets have a simple shaker style that gives the large area a simple look, adding glass to only a few cabinet doors gives the homeowner a place to showcase some of her prized pieces.  The new High-Definition Laminate top is an inexpensive alternative to a great looking countertop; with a classy look, and low price tag, it is ideal for anyone who wants to update without breaking the bank.  The ceramic tile backsplash, in an off-set layout, offers a durable and elegant look.

  • Oak Patio Door

This family was looking to enlarge the view into their back yard.  This 12 foot bi-parting patio door allows for a large visually barrier-free view into the backyard.  With the large gable wall, the family decided to go with a round top transom above the door to allow more light to enter into the room.  The North Star oak interior offers a rich look for a vinyl door.

  • Signet Wood Grain Fiberglass Door

This home already has a dramatic look to it, but what was lacking was a front door that matched the rest.  The family wanted to have a wood look without compromising the durability and longevity of a front door.  The Signet wood grain fiberglass door gives a great alternative to those who want a wood look with added energy efficiency.  With the option of four different wood series, and numerous stain finishes in each series, the choice of which finish was perfect was a tough one to make.  The sidelites and round top above the door also added to the dramatic entrance of the home.

  • Textured Steel and Designer Glass Front Door

This family was looking to improve their energy efficiency by having a new front entry installed.  This ProVia door, sidelite, and transom create an elegant front door system.  Having the option of different colors on the exterior and interior, this family took advantage of it by having it factory painted mountain berry on the exterior and white on the interior.  This allows them to have a dramatic look outside while keeping the interior subtle and calm.  The designer glass gives the ensemble that elegant look but keeps it simple.

  • 14×14 Four Season Room

This room has a truly outdoor feel with the siding being on the interior of the room as well as the exterior.  The homeowner chose this look to keep the feeling of being outdoors.  Using the vertical siding as opposed to the standard horizontal siding allows the room to stand out and give it a unique look.  This room was built using post construction with a cathedral ceiling and trapezoid windows.  All windows and doors in this room are North Star products.  We replaced the existing patio door into the room with a French door to create a more dramatic look.  The tile floor makes the room durable and able to withstand the wear and tear that a pet can cause.  This project took us just over a month to complete.

This family had a large lot in Grand Ledge and was looking to make their home more comfortable. We added on to the rear of the home an 18×24 addition, completely removing the old wall, with a fully insulated block basement. In the basement we added an egress window with well, leaving the option to finish the basement adding more square footage. On the main level we framed, insulated, dry walled, painted, extended the HVAC system to the room, and installed all electrical needed. We installed new cork flooring in not only the addition, but also the existing kitchen. The addition features a North Star 15 foot bi-parting door, two awning window, and one large mulled unit with a round top window to complete the look in the gable. All of the windows and doors are our North Star vinyl products with the Canadian Oak interior. On the exterior of the addition we constructed a 6×16 wolmanized deck, installed vinyl siding, and asphalt shingles to match the existing home. This project took approximately two months to complete.

  • Stone Veneer

This unique home recently chose to update it looks both inside and out. On the exterior of the home we removed a brick veneer and replaced it with a man-made stone veneer. The windows above the front entry were replaced with our North Star windows in a Chestnut Brown finish. The two entry doors, both from the ProVia Signet collection, are a fiberglass door with a wood finish. The matching side-lights on the main entry are also of the Signet collection finished in a wood finish. The kitchen features a new Corian Solid-Surface counter-top with accessories like warming bars to set hot pans on, and drain grooves to allow water to drain back into the sink.
