This screen room in Lansing Michigan was updated by adding new screen panels as well as new trim. As dog owners, they wanted more than just an average window screen. These screen panels feature a Pet Safe Screen that is built to be stronger to handle a cat or dog and their nails. We finished the posts between the screens with Azek trim boards that have a wood grain appearance to them but are maintenance free. The new ProVia storm door carries a lifetime warranty. Inside the screen room, we added a vinyl bead board to the ceiling to give the room a finished feeling, complete with a new exterior ceiling fan.

Walk-Out Three Season Room
Posted February 22, 2012 By Katrina in Deck, Seasonal With | No Comments
On a walk-out style basement, steep grading, or a bi-level it can be hard to add on to the home. This three season room is built-up on posts to accommodate the steep drop off of the grade. This room in Lansing features vinyl windows with a pliable “glass” in them. The panels have fully removable panes in them that create a screen room when removed. The stairs and lower deck are both constructed out of treated lumber. The interior of the room was finished in vinyl and aluminum coil to make the space weather safe. The indoor/outdoor carpet has a nice finish to it, yet is able to withstand any rain that might come in when windows are open. The outdoor ceiling fan will help to cool the room on hot days.

Knotty Pine Four Season Room
Posted By Katrina in Addition, Seasonal With | No Comments
This four season room in Laingsburg was built to replace a kit sunroom that had been installed decades ago. We removed the old room and post-frame constructed this room in its place. The walls are all covered in a knotty pine to break it up from the rest of the home. The vaulted ceiling was done in drywall with the beam being covered in pine. The vinyl flooring was an excellent color and material choice as it looks like tile but is warmer to the touch. This room is the perfect getaway for this couple where they can enjoy the outdoors even on a cold day.

Vinyl Three Season Room
Posted February 20, 2012 By Katrina in Addition, Deck, Seasonal, Window With | No Comments
This three season room in Grand Ledge features some children-friendly windows, which is perfect for the subdivision location. The “glass” in these windows is a pliable vinyl that never cracks or shatters. The vinyl can be stretched to conform to whatever is placing pressure on it, and when released will go back to its normal state. These panels have four sections to them that can slide to give you more options as to how much air to let in. The vinyl comes in different shades as well allowing you to adjust how much light you want to come in. The vinyl sections are fully removable in case you want to turn the room in to a screen room. The aluminum ceiling and trims allow for the room to be exposed to weather without being damaged. The indoor/outdoor carpeting gives the room a cozy feeling without having to worry about leaving windows open. This room is a great middle ground if you can’t decide whether to go with a screen room or a four season room.

Screen Room with Brick Patio
Posted April 18, 2011 By northernAdmin in Deck, Seasonal With | No CommentsThis job was a little out of our normal range as it was located in Ann Arbor, but as children of a past customer of ours they demanded we do the work. Originally the homeowners had a large deck on the rear of home that offered zero character to the home. Re-structuring a portion of the old deck and adding composite top boards, this 312 square foot room could easily be converted into a four season room. The ceiling of this room is finished in a cedar bead board panel that was clear-coated to give it a finished look. Adding a ceiling fan made for exterior use will make this screen room even more enjoyable on those hot summer days. On the exterior of the room we added a patio made from brick patio pavers to give them a ground-level area to entertain and grill on. The room also has an asphalt roof to match the house, and siding to match as well. This complete process took us just over a month to complete.

Enclosed Front Entry
Posted March 31, 2011 By northernAdmin in Seasonal With | No CommentsWhat many old homes lack is some sort of a mud room. They have front entrances that go right into the living room or dining room, or even a dramatic foyer; this is not where you want muddy shoes left. This family decided to enclose their existing front porch to create a new mud room, and have a porch that they can use and still have some privacy. Using storm windows and a storm door, this porch can still be opened completely should they ever decide to open it up completely again. Once the top boards were removed we reinforced the deck to take care of some “dips” in the floor, we then insulated the floor and installed a subfloor that we covered with indoor/outdoor carpeting. The walls were constructed and insulated to help create a barrier between the weather and the home walls, and installed the windows. The exterior of the room we covered with a vinyl siding to match the existing. The old wood stairs were replaced with a natural color composite decking and matching rails.

Screen Room to Seasonal Room
Posted March 24, 2011 By Katrina in Addition, Seasonal With | No CommentsFor every new build of a seasonal room we do, there is a customer looking to turn their existing screen room into a seasonal room. This is a classic example of removing the screens and installing North Star replacement windows. This room features a mulled unit in each section that consists of a picture window on the bottom and a double hung on top. These windows all have a hickory exterior and a white interior. The old screen door was replaced with a new steel entry door with a doggy door factory installed. The tile floor offers a great transition from the outdoors to the living room, allowing children to remove dirty shoes.

14×14 Four Season Room
Posted By Katrina in Door, Seasonal, Siding With | No CommentsThis room has a truly outdoor feel with the siding being on the interior of the room as well as the exterior. The homeowner chose this look to keep the feeling of being outdoors. Using the vertical siding as opposed to the standard horizontal siding allows the room to stand out and give it a unique look. This room was built using post construction with a cathedral ceiling and trapezoid windows. All windows and doors in this room are North Star products. We replaced the existing patio door into the room with a French door to create a more dramatic look. The tile floor makes the room durable and able to withstand the wear and tear that a pet can cause. This project took us just over a month to complete.

13×14 Three-Season Room with Pickled Wood
Posted By Katrina in Addition, Seasonal With | No CommentsBeing a past customer, when this homeowner wanted a three season room she knew who to call. Her family repeatedly told her not to add on since it was only her in the home, but she knew she needed to have one. We used some of the existing deck framing that she had there and reinforced it to hold the structure. This room is at a second story level with decks on both sides of it. Originally it was planned for a white ceiling, but near the end they decided a pickled-pine ceiling would look better and we couldn’t agree more. With a small gas stove and the pickled-pine, this room has great warmth to it. This homeowner was looking to add more space to her dining room without spending too much money and a cathedral ceiling three season room was the perfect way to do that. In the less than two months since the room has been completed, this homeowner has had six dinner parties just to show off her new room! This homeowner was concerned when just Bob and his son showed up on that wintry first day to do this project but when they left a mere six weeks later and she had a fully completed three season room, deck, and a new roof on the entire home she was sad to see them leave.

16×16 Three Season Room
Posted By Katrina in Deck, Seasonal With | No CommentsConverting an existing deck into a seasonal room is great for those looking to still enjoy their backyard with protection from Mother Nature. This family decided to turn an old covered deck into a new three season room. Leaving the existing patio door intact to the home, we constructed a 16×16 three season room on posts. The room is filled with floor to ceiling white North Star windows with two ProVia entry doors going to decks on either side of the room. The gable end wall also features two trapezoid windows allowing the most sunlight possible to come through and really making the room feel open. To add insulation to the room because it only had 2×4 walls, we used an insulated Polydeck floor system. On the exterior of the room we added a 5×7 wolmanized deck with stairs connecting to the room. We covered the exterior of the home, garage, and addition with a foam-backed siding, and asphalt shingles on the roof to match the home. This three season room and the siding project took less than two months once we began demo.
